Bandići - About place

Katunska nahija covers the area of 1200msq. Geographically positioned between municipalities of Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Nikšić and Kotor, it belongs to the highland region of Montenegro, called „the rocky sea“. Cetinje is in its central part, whereas its side towards Danilovgrad comprises settlements: Komani, Bandići and Zagarač. They are connected with Podgorica and Danilovgrad by Nikšić road at distance of 12km, and with Cetinje by the old road across Čevo.

Situated between mountains Garač and Siljevica and Busovnik hill, which make a natural protection, and opened in the east towards the Skadar Lake basin and Zeta and Bjelopavlici plain, Komani, Bandići  and Zagarač cover the most cultivated, parish part of Katunska nahija. For their pleasant climate conditions, they have been settled for ages, which is proved by many material and cultural and historical evidences. Toponyms, funeral mounds, ruins of old churches, caravan routes, old housings, wells from Roman and Illyrian times are just part of legacy of old peoples: the Illyrians, Greeks, Thracians and later Slavs.

These communities with their natural and production resources and inherited cultural and historical heritage represent a base for development of agro-tourist contents through their farming cooperative “Katunski Dom” – Bandići .Prosciutto, kastradina, cheese, honey, mead from Njeguši, Cetinje, Bajice, Čevo, Bjelice, Cuce and Ceklići, as well as cheese and kajmak (dairy spread) in goatskin from Lukavica and Latično, wine and brandy from Komani, Bandići, Zagarač and Pješivci, are Montenegrin top quality products known from the past. These products used to be exported to Kotor and Dubrovnik Republic, presenting the base of trade connections between Old Montenegro and the neighbouring countries.

Surrounded by hills and high mountains, Katunska nahija is protected from negative impacts and pollution, which makes its traditional products natural, healthy and quality for both home and foreign market. The area of Katunska nahija with its nine communities and seat in Cetinje represents the freedom-loving, spiritual and special nation-building kernel of Montenegro, where visitors now may see, meet and feel all basics and contents of a people’s life, from the past until the present days.
